Types of Swimming Pools
Above-Ground Swimming Pools arebecoming increasingly popular due to the lower cost, variety of sizes, and the fact that they can be disassembled. Above-ground pools are built on level ground and are constructed of plastic and metal. A variety of features, including decks, can be added to enhance the enjoyment of an above-ground swimming pool.
In-Ground Swimming Pools can be built in an unlimited number of designs. The most common types of in-ground swimming pools are vinyl lined, gunite, and fiberglass.
• Vinyl Lined Swimming Pools are the most economical in-ground swimming pool. They are constructed by building a frame around the perimeter of a pre-dug hole. Sand is laid along the bottom of the hole and a vinyl liner is secured to the frame.
• Gunite Swimming Pools can be built in any shape and size and are very durable. Gunite is the term used for the concrete mixture that is used to construct the pool. The gunite is sprayed through a hose at a high velocity covering rebar which provides the framework for the pool. After the gunite dries, a variety of smooth finishes can be applied.
• Fiberglass Swimming Pools are made of fiberglass reinforced plastic which has been molded into the shape of a swimming pool. The pool is set into an appropriate sized hole which has been partially filled with sand. Once installed and leveled, the area around the pool is backfilled.
